If Dragon Age 2 mixes the best elements from the first with more Mass Effect-like combat, I'd be down.
I can't for the life of me get excited for this game. I bought it for my g/f, watched her play the first 70 min and it fell terribly flat to me. I mean it's in my room and I could play it any time I want, yet I still have no desire to. For shame.
I'm happy to report that I cannot recall any of these. Though I'm sad that the terrible mascot is no more. Someone needs to make an update of Mo Hawk with 3D graphics, voiced by Mike Patton.
No Zelda in 2010? Dammit, Jen! Why must you tell me things I don't want to hear?
Really looking forward to Zeno Clash, myself.
It's not comparing Heavy Rain to the whole of Mass Effect 2, just that one interrogation scene which seemed a better realization of what Cage had promised.
The article just makes me want to point to Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. That game had no combat and few escape sequences. It was mostly comprised of wandering around uncovering (and interpreting) a story.
Resisting the urge to your a sexual metaphor for it not being the length that counts. I think I just failed at that.
Regardless, I do wish most games were shorter (and cheaper to boot). Seems a bit odd that many XBLA games are about 6-8 hours, which is hardly shorter than full retail games 6x the price. I just don't get it.
That being said, there is an argument for longer games. Demon's souls comes to mind as a game where its length only adds to the oppressive vi...
I'm convinced that Fry and Leela from Futurama are based on Guybrush and Elaine. Think about it...
I'd reccomend playing the first game first, even if you don't finish it. It's not quite as well paced, but it's pretty cheap used these days and will be a good indicator for whether you'll be interested in the new one.
Sounds good, but I can't seem to get as excited about this as I feel I should. Just looks like too much of the same, even if the original was quite good.
Then again, maybe with my lowered expectations I'll wind up pleasantly surprised. Fond though I was of the first, there was definitely room for improvement. Throw in a great ending and it'll make up for lack of innovation in the long run.
She's fun and all, but clearly not relationship material. Seriously though, she bottoms from the tops and secretly likes to be controlled.
In MGS the sexuality is gratuitous and adds nothing to the story, theme, etc. It's just an easter egg. But Bayonetta's sexuality is a part of her character. The camera doesn't so much as gaze at her as she knowingly poses for it. The story may be nonsense, but her sexuality is key to what that game is about; ecstasy.
I have a feeling Heavy Rain will either be absolutely amazing or an incredible piece of dreck. Looks like a choose-your-own-adventure movie, which might be okay, but I'm not sold on the "movie" aspects of it being that good. Clips I've seen have left me underwhelmed, though it also sounds like a game where the best moments will be the quiet ones that takes you by surprise, so who knows.
I mostly agree with this article, though there ae times when a game's difficulty level is too all-over-the-board, and that's a problem. I've known people to have given up on the third boss in No More Heroes because she's such a tough bugger, and missed out on seeing the rest of the game. I liked that particular boss, but felt that it was misplaced at that stage of the game and hurt the pacing (enough to turn off many gamers).
I still don't know if I love or hate the Steel Batallion controller. I mean I hate how big, cumbersome, and complex it is. Yet there's something about the challenge of overcoming that which I find strangely alluring.
Even with a 9, this is probably the most negative review of the game I've read insofar as it's the only one to say anything bad about the game at all. And even with its blemishes, it still sounds aces. Can't wait to play it. Now why did it have to come out the same week as No More Heroes 2?
I second Uncharted 2. The final boss was okay, but one of the worst parts of the game, imo. The final 5 minutes of cutscenes more than made up for it.
Ico is another prime example of this. The final boss with the Queen was only okayish and a bit frustrating, but everything that followed, interactive or not, was wonderful.
Great article. Though I think releasing Duke Nuk'em Forever is worth way more than 5 points.
I'd love to play Plants Vs Zombies if and when it hits XBLA, but Peggle always felt too random and left me cold.
